works in progress that might hold interest: The Storm Series
White Lightning No: 1 – 5
Late winter each year Tom & I attend a wee local rock show in Peterborough Ontario; a small city an hours drive south of Apsley. This show is always an excellent opportunity to choose unusual chunks of hi-grade stone. Often hewn by the local rock hounds/prospectors themselves; from wilder areas of the mineral rich northern sections of our own province. We are seldom disappointed.
One of the treasures purchased this year was a rough-cut square of basic BASALT from Cobalt, Ontario. Brightened throughout with strong bright shiny silver veins of SILVER. Unfortunately these photos do not do the slices justice. You will just have to imagine all those light grayish lines as shiny silver. They are spectacular.
The original chunk measured approximately 3.5" x 2.25" x 5"
My mind immediately visualized "fork lightning" from the one smooth face showing at that time. It wasn’t until Tom had cut and polished the first 5 slices in March and I viewed the subtle changes between each slice that the unique idea of " THE STORM Series " evolved.
Often as a painter I viewed and painted "series" – why not with jools?? My mind was off and running full tilt.
I plan to make each piece up differently.
I have one of these done; each will be centered around a unique storm Goddess from about the Globe. Each will have a small descriptive booklet - a small painting and of course the slice made into an exquisite piece of jewelry piece of jewelry.
The first was Cailleach - I will get her photograph done soon.
Perhaps with this I am working towards a small gallery installation - all in good time.

This is an igneous volcanic rock solidified from Molten Lava.
It can provide strength to continue through difficult times and can produce solidarity in ones life. It can be quite useful in dissipating anger and can provide understanding and guidance in situations which require one to bounce back. (No wonder I am attracted to it this year - plus I am the sign Cancer..)
It is a mineral to help one through changes and provide stability to ones life. It also assists in diminishing negative aspects of ones character, promoting positive modifications of ones behavior.
It is activated and energized during full and new moon cycles.
SILVER

Astrological signs of Cancer and Aquarius
My books say Silver crystallizes in the form of dendritic wires, scales, plates and nuggets and rarely needle like crystals. My My geologist hubby Tom says these slices have silver veinlets – that the silver is close to pure BUT may be contaminated with a bit of gold.
Silver brings one "the advantage" throughout life. Improves speech and brings an eloquence to conversations. Eliminates abrasive traits adding culture to ones presence promoting popularity.
Silver can be used as a mirror to the soul, one to stimulate seeing oneself from outside the body. This sight is without judgmental attitudes and can provide a stepping stone to the furtherance of that which the "I Ching" [pronounced yee-jing] recognizes as the "superior man".
It provides one with patience and perseverance in the tasks chosen and allows one to understand the underlying reasons for the tasks. It assists in increasing perception and helps to regulate the emotional and intuitive energies.
Silver is used extensively with gemstones because the metal is able to reflect and enhance the qualities of the stones used with it; providing a steadying helping hand for the stone. Silver is known to enhance the powers of the moon and is an excellent mineral for use when energizing other stones during the full and new moons.
When all five are done I will present each one plus a photo of them displayed together on a velvety black sky.
