![]() We had a wonderful Lupper on Oct 31st with friends Wilma and Kim from over Haliburton way; and Marilou and Phil from slightly north of Bancroft. Everyone came in costume - Wilma was Memories of Cat-in-the-Hat with appropriate striped hat and an orange boa - her partner was Dracula. Marilou a delightful geisha including wooden shoes set hi on wood pieces - and Phil was a hockey player. Good food and good fun! |

Just finished doing up the windows with glass shelves - they look just terrific. Previously I had used wood shelves which made a definate division visually - these IMHO look much better Two are blue and one is red and white. This is the 1st. blue. |
This is the same window showing the whole view. |
This is the 2nd. window. Both sides of the front door are now totally blue ;-) |
![]() Now this one started cause I didn't have enough blue for a 3rd. window. I had just found a glass ornament Mom & Dad had given me last Christmas. Still well up with tears when things like this happen. It'll take forever to stop. In the mean time I thought - why not a Memory window. This window has memories of both Mom and Maya and I and enjoying it immensely. At the top hanging in the centre is the ornament I mentioned. The 2 red lab bottles I had lent Maya for her wee boutique Coriandre when it opened. She made all sorts of vinegards, jams, jellies and grew hundreds of flowers/herbs to make into wreaths and arrangements. I felt red glass in her window would bring luck to her new venture. When she passed away only hours after Mom in mid-June I had a difficult time. Later on Kim passed on the lovely red bowl to take home and the necklace on the left side Maya had bought herself when she worked in Pakistan. The oil lamp was a favorite Mom brought home from the cottage after it was electrified; it had been left there by the previous owners. The wee pieces of red glass sat on a glass shelf in her sun porch. One of the larger hand made bottles Tess had brought Mom home from the wee shop she volunteers in. The other bits I had collected myself so it makes for a terrific eye catching display. None of it monetarily precious - BUT very mich so memory wise for me. Notice if you will bear with me my orchid is still blooming. It was a Costco cheapie and has bloomed steadily for almost 2 years. I think it took a months rest somewhere along the line. The middle of the shelf the black blob - has an India Herb Gotu Kola growing in a simulated swamp. It too is doing well. Rec'd the cutting from my Uncle Ross. eating one leaf fresh per day is supposed to help aging/memory. Anything might help who knows ;-0 |

This is a piece rooted from Granny Mary's Burro's Tail |

![]() So whats in the plant room so far. Well in this photo tucked back towards the window is my fig tree. I recieved this baby last spring and it was the only plant in the room all summer. Can't believe how great it is doing. In fact it just put out another new leaf. Knowing nothing about "figs" I am amazed how large the leaves are. The fig will eventually life on top of the rock box between the chimney and the sauno tube. I should if I am lucky get 2 crops a year when it matures. I do so enjoy "plant" experiments - this new room opens up a whole new batch of interesting possibilities. |
![]() Of course my flying frogs are wintering in there. |
![]() As are my collection of frogs. This Maya one is my largest. |
![]() This was a baby of my own lace fern which I had given my Mom a few years ago. It has returned home as it is too large; it really looks good here as the ceiling is so high. Later on the walls and ceiling will be white so I can move it even further up the ceiling. The fern in the first blue window is also a relative ;-) It is my favorite species of fern. |
![]() This box is being filled with river stone - as the rocks fill it up the boards will be put in to make the sides higher. There is 6 " of insulation throughout - the windows are dbl. glaze - the floor flagstone with a foot of limestone under it. So far it has not been below 10 deg. which is great. The tomato plants I cut back and stuck in the hydroponic are sending out new leaves. I just planted some lettuce and greens in the other unit. A whole batch of experiments are to begin . wheeeeee |
![]() This pile of river rock was delivered this morning - we spent some of today moving not quite half of the pile inside. |
![]() This was the plant room taken today ;-) Gorgeous sunshine and mild - had to open the doors to let out heat. |
On the east windows between the plant room and the screened porch is my passion vine. It seems to be happy so far. Already sending out new shoots. Normally when it had to come into my studio in the fall it would drop all its leaves and look folorn and withered with the dry wood stove heat. The plant room is much moister and things are looking good. |
Also on this wall is one of my light units - all sorts of green bits growing ;-) |

![]() Just in this wee corner is my rosemary std. now about 7 years old - a pot of parsley - and blurry right up lft corner a plant of celery. |
This spider plant is a baby from the original (leaves to the left) which originated from a baby/cutting of a plant which grew in the Christopher Robin Home for Childrn where my Aunt Tess worked about 30 years ago. This plant gets many hanging layers as the babies get babies and all ive well large and long. I have a "thing" about containers for plants with female faces. One of my moe quiet collection things ;-)) |
So far I am only able to utilize one corner which just whets the appetite to getting the whole room finish . We need to splash around a great deal of white paint - put in the old enamel sink with the buit in drain board and water. Have to think about some sort of solar heater to warm water in the winter at least to tepid. Plus a few shelves and bins for soils and pots. Life is good! Hope you enjoyed this fast catch up. ((hugs)) |
